Smart Copy - Keep It Short and To The Point

Back to Websites Home Page

A Smart Formula for Your Website

  • Your Business Name
  • Your photo
  • Your Hours of Operation
  • Your Email Address
  • Your Physical Address and Phone Number
  • Your Web copy with strong, simple headlines and bullet points.

What Should Be on Your Website?
Your prospect arrives at your Website seeking the answer to just one crucial question:  "What's in this Website for me?"  They want to know the benefits to them and they want to know them now.  You must entice prospects to say "WOW - I want to know more!" and you must do it within 8 seconds or less.  Only then, will they stay at your site and take the desired action - - contact you or buy.

Want a winning Website?  Think Billboards at 60 M.P.H
The essence of good writing for the Web is powerful-simplicity.  Pretend you are paying for, and must create the words for, a highway billboard that will cost you $10,000 per month, an average high-traffic sign rate.  With that mind-set and huge financial outlay, you will make every word count and you will continue to refine - and refine - and refine your words until you've created a powerful presentation that captures interest in seconds and compels the reader to want to know more about you and your business.  And, most importantly, all of this must be done while they are zipping down the highway at 60+ miles per hour with no time to stop and ponder.

Follow these guidelines from Google and Yahoo - the experts

Don't try to say too much
Don't clutter your Web page with unnecessary details.  Instead:

  • Clearly state your key message using as few words as possible
  • Use summary descriptions, sub-headings, and short paragraphs
  • Use bulleted Lists wherever possible
  • Since people tend to skim rather than read each and every word, keep your headline simple and easy to understand
  • Nobody wants to come up against an imposing wall of text.  Use bulleted lists and concise language to cut down on eye strain.

Getting Your Web Page Information to Us

The easiest method to create and provide us with your Web page copy is to simply open a Word document and type the information you want on your Web page.  Bold the headers and use bullet points in addition to very short paragraphs. Lay the page out with bullet points, bold for headings and formatting as you would like it on your Website.  The designers will create your Web page using your layout as their guiding model.  Remember, keep it simple and to the point.

Important:  Web designers don't read nor proof your copy, but will do a quick spell-check.  Have someone proof your work before you email it to us.  When all is ready, send your finished Word document to Info@AmericanHealthSource.org by email attachment.  Contact us if you have questions.
